The Mekong Land Initiative officially starts on November 1, 2026
Investment, debt and climate change are reshaping land in the Mekong. Laws are stronger, but enforcement gaps hold back the rights of smallholder farmers, women and ethnic groups. Running to 2030, MLI builds on the Mekong Region Land Governance (MRLG) programme, tackling that gap through national alliances of government, civil society and business.
Our vision, our approach and the thinking behind MLI.
MLI works through diverse alliances in each country, which ensures lessons come from those closest to the land. Our regional approach means lessons travel across borders, so progress in one country can strengthen practice in another.
